SF1615 Hopi Salako Mano c. 1890 This early Hopi Kachina Doll is a significant and rare example from the pre- tourist era of Kachina carving. The carving depicts the Salako Mana with its striking, elaborate tableta made in sections and strung together in the old fashion. The piece is carved of cottonwood root and painted with mineral pigments. The paint is still in remarkably good condition for a piece of this age. The feathers on the tableta are turkey and pheasant. 17 1/2" high SOLD |
