SF2007 "The Confederate Sharpshooter" c. 2006 by Don Troiani. 27-3/4" x 24" oil on board. Don Troiani is well known for his military paintings covering the period, in most cases, from the American Civil War through the Indian wars. His attention to detail is unparalleled and his work is in many institutions and well known collections. He is not very prolific due to the incredible amount of detail that he incorporates into his work. As an example, the rifle that appears in this painting is a British Whitworth Rifle, which the Confederacy imported in small numbers in 1862. The rifle was a favorite of Confederate sharpshooters as it had a killing range of 1,500 yards. $19,500.00 |
