7504 Northwest Coast Halibut Hook C. 10th Century A nicely done halibut hook on what appears to be red cedar. Original spruce ties; human face. The northwest coast natives believed that the human form would scare away sea monsters. Many men were lost fishing at sea, and rather than attributing these losses to the sea, the natives believed that sea monsters were responsible. SOLD |
